Gosaku Ota, a manga creator known for his adaptations of works by Go Nagai, passed away on December 12 at the age of 74.

 According to a report by the Sponichi news website, Ota had contracted COVID-19 in November and was hospitalized. Despite his condition initially stabilizing, he later developed pneumonia and died from it. 

Ota began his career as an assistant to Shotaro Ishinomori before making his debut as a shōjo manga creator. He is remembered for his work on series such as Mazinger Z, Great Mazinger, UFO Robo Grandizer, Getter Robo, Getter Robo G, and Kotetsu Zieg. 

Ota also created the fishing manga Tsuri Baka Taishō and the Mach SOS manga, as well as serving as the original creator of the Groizer X anime.
